It’s almost here! It doesn’t really seem like Christmas yet. I don’t know what it is about this year, but it seems like it has flown! Jim gave me my pearl ring a year ago already!
We had our two nights of Christmas services at Mars Hill Wednesday and tonight. You know what? You sure get a lot of grief for not having services on Christmas Day! WZZM and WoodTV were in the parking lot during the services trying to get comments and interviews. I don’t think people realize that it is a work day for most of the church’s staff. Sundays require more than half of our staff and hundreds of volunteers. Sure, maybe only three hours of the day would consist of services, but then there’s another 6 hours of prep and tear-down. That’s a nine hour day which is a normal work day. There goes your time with family and a holiday. I think people are too caught up with the idea of church being a building. Church is not a building, it’s the group of Jesus followers who gather once a week and practice what they know to be true every day. A lot of people probably get their “church fix” for the year on Christmas and if we don’t offer what are they going to do? Maybe… go other times of the year? Sorry, if I come across as judgemental or unwilling to reach out, but I really think we need to stress that being a Christian isn’t about going to church and doing good things when it’s convienent. It’s about living it out on a daily basis, inside and outside of a church building. OK… Wendy.. step off your soap box.
I am on vacation now! Until January 2!! Well, I have to go in next Thursday for a few hours for an update on the e-mail server, but other than that… I am free!!
Julie: I miss you too! And you Teresa and Mom B and Audrey and Haley 🙂 See you Saturday and hopefully you can go get the dresses with me!
And Mom – I miss you too – see you Sunday… can’t leave anyone out 🙂
I of course miss the family men… but not many read this and if they do, they already know I miss them too…
Keep the comments coming people! Or I will give you all coal!
