I don’t usually write opinionated blogs, but I feel like I need to speak about what happened at Cornerstone today. For those of you who don’t know, a group called Soulforce Equality Ride, a Christian gay rights group, attempted to go to Cornerstone today. Cornerstone knew they were coming and let it be known that they would be arrested if they stepped foot on campus. OK… here are my initial thoughts. Yes, homosexuality is a sin, but so is lying, cheating, getting drunk, and gossiping. Would Cornerstone be saying homosexuality is not a sin by welcoming this group on there campus? I really don’t think so. I think they could have said a lot more about who Jesus is by welcoming them and showing them love. Jesus hung out with prostitutes and other people openly living in sin. He loved them. They knew how he felt about what they were doing, but he loved them anyway and showed them a better way to live and offered help to live that better way. Why wouldn’t Cornerstone have done the same? Welcome them and offer that unconditional love. Two huge things I remember from Cornerstone were to have your OWN worldview and to have discernment. That obvsiously wasn’t an option today. I think Calvin is doing something more Jesus-like. The group will go there tomorrow and is being welcomed. The Calvin students have been having discussions about this for months and are prepared to welcome this group with love, while having their worldviews and discernment. Calvin has said they don’t agree with homosexuality, but that doesn’t mean they don’t love these people. Unfortunately, this group, Grand Rapids, and perhaps other parts of the country know Cornerstone as the place that doesn’t love people who have different views than them, wrong or right, and in fact will have them arrested if they try to talk to them.

that is sad and discouraging what cornerstone did. but good that calvin and some other colleges have opened their doors to soulforce in the way they have.
Well said Wendy my dear! I couldn’t agree with you more. I am pretty outraged on the subject myself. Boo to Cornerstone. Over the past three years, I have continally been more and more discouraged that I graduated from there…
