About Me

I noticed that my last few posts have been about Jim. Totally unintentional, and not necessarily bad, but I am going to blog about me. I was tagged by Chaeli to post 5 random facts about myself, so here we go:

  1. I am left-handed, but do a few things better with my right hand. These would include: using scissors (maybe because they didn’t have left-handed scissors when I was younger?), hitting a volleyball (spiking and serving), using a mouse (tried using a left-handed mouse… too weird), and dribbling a basketball. However, I do still write with my left hand and have to deal with the annoying streaks on the paper and my hand caused by my wonderful hand dragging on the paper.
  2. I cannot drive a manual transmission car (which means I cannot drive one of my very own cars) no matter how many people have tried to teach me. Jim, Courtney, Michele, and Chaeli can attest to this. Yes, that many people have tried. That many have failed. (OK, so maybe I was the one that failed.) I think part of it had to do with the fact that if I cannot pick up something quickly, I get frustrated and give up so I can try it later on my own. But, that doesn’t really work with this because I cannot do it on my own. Argh.
  3. I only like even numbers. If I have to choose between an odd number or even number, even it is. My favorite numbers are 10 and 20, I got married on the 12th and my shoe size is 8. I do struggle with my birthday being 11/17, but at least I was born in 1982. I used to want an enormous amount of children (that’s a whole other issue). Yep. It was either 10 or 12. I also recently noticed that I buy things in two’s: If I need black beans, I get two cans. If I need bread, I get two loaves. Gum? Two packs. I think I may need to get this checked out.
  4. I am related to John Paxson, of Chicago Bulls fame, and John Adams and John Quincy Adams, the presidents. I also learned that my Dad’s family came from Quakers who were among the first to settle in Pennsylvania. I have never gotten anything out of it, but hey, it’s still cool.
  5. I have an inch long sliver of wood lodged into my right palm. I got it from sliding my hand down a hand rail in my dorm at Cornerstone. I did try and have it removed: I visited the campus nurse (and almost passed out from them digging at it for an hour) then was sent to the ER (the intern told me that he couldn’t see it anymore so it must have fallen out… Yeah, you’re right. An inch long piece of wood fell out my hand and I totally missed it). Sure enough, it was still there so I had to meet with a hand surgeon. He took a look and decided to take it out. So, I went into surgery a week later. I got prepped, had the IV put it (after trying for 30 minutes… I have rolling veins) and then was wheeled into the operating room. They just started to start the “knock you out” drugs when my surgeon came in. He took another look at my hand and said, “Hmmm. This looks deeper than I remember.” I fell asleep. I woke up an hour later in recovery – my hand was still the same! He decided not to mess with it, but of course couldn’t make that call until I was on the operating table!?!?! So, my sliver and I are now living happily ever after. It doesn’t bother me, so I don’t bother it. Although, it has moved closer to the surface, so I can play with it.

There you have it. Hope you don’t feel like you have wasted 10 minutes of your life. 🙂

  1. I love it, cause now I know you more! I miss you!!!

Need a break? You should come out here and get some “dry heat.” 🙂

    Love ya!

  2. I even learned some things about you. Also it is very likely the reason you cannot drive a stick shift is because you are left handed. Just a thought. Love you
