House, receptions, and candles

Holy busy week, Batman! Let’s play catch-up… Last Wednesday, Jim and I went looking at houses again. The first one we saw reminded me of a maze. It was semi-cute, but had so many twists and turns that I was afraid Jim and I wouldn’t be able to find each other. Not cool. So on to the next house. This one is nice and it’s in Jenison. It’s a ranch with a two-car stall garage that is attached to the house by a mud room/breezway. The house itself is older, but the whole upstairs was totally gutted and updated with new carpet, tile, counter tops, cupboards, dishwasher, microwave, lighting, etc. It’s all in neutral colors, so it will be easy to work with. I wasn’t sure about it at first because it’s a little more than we wanted to spend, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. We will probably make an offer today and see if she takes it. Keep praying! Click here to see it. After work on Thursday, I tweaked my tennis “skills” again and took one more step towards Wimbeldon 2008. 🙂 Basically I served at Jim for a while then we hit it back and forth. My shoulders are sore! It also consisted of a soggy bike ride, since WZZM 13 “Off-target” weather decided to predict that it wouldn’t rain until midnight. But, I am sure glad they were wrong and it rained at 8:00 instead. Friday was a good day at work, mainly because the offices are only open until noon. Yes! Then I spent most of the afternoon updating the guest list and calling reception places. Looks like our wedding will be on a Friday night now. May 12 or May19… I’ll keep you updated 🙂 Apparently other people have the nerve to get married in May, too. Friday night, we took off for Lansing and hung out with a bunch of people at the DeWitt Ox Roast. It was a good time in April’s home town. Lots and lots of food, fun, and friends. The best ever! I was there until Saturday night. Jim had to go back to GR because he is volunteering the in fifth and sixth grade ministry and had leader orientaiton on Saturday. On Sunday, we had a really good church service. Then we headed over to Cornerstone to help Andrea move back in. Then we took a nap because we are old and being at college for even an hour tired me out. At 6 o’clock, April, Suz, Josh Brandsen, Michele, Josh Bishop, Chaeli, Jon, Carl, Marissa, Jamie, Julie, Jim, and I gathered at Holland State Park for our honorary Candlelight!! Thanks Michele!! For all of you non-Cornerstoners, let me explain. Here’s your standard Candlelight: At midnight, girls run up and down the halls of the dorm banging on doors and yelling “Candlelight!!” Which is annoying by the way, if you don’t know who got engaged. Then all the girls head to the lounge and gather in a circular formation. There is music playing (usually the couple’s song) and a lit candle with the engagement ring is passed around. Then you start to clap faster and faster and then when the candle gets to the engaged girl, she blows out the candle and everyone cheers. Yay! So, then she goes into middle of the circular formation and is asked a variety of mushy questions: “Where did you meet?” “Where was your first date?” “When did you know you loved him?” “If he were a flavor of ice cream, what would it be?” Those kind of questions. Then the engaged girl asks two or three of her friends to pray for her. Meanwhile, the guys are doing the same sort of thing, minus the ring, candle, and high-pitched squeals (well… in most cases). Then after that part, the girls run out to meet the boys at the bell tower. Girls and guys form a tunnel and the girl runs through to the boy and they kiss and then the boy climbs the bell tower and rings the bell. Fun, huh? But wait… it’s not over! Everyone runs to the pond and the boy is thrown into the nasty goose and duck-poo pond, regardless of the weather. Cornerstone boys should never propose in the winter. So now that you know how a Candlelight goes, Jim and mine was very similar, but minus the bell tower and goose and duck-poo pond. Jim was thrown off of the pier into Lake Michigan. It was really fun.
